  • Location

Located in Central/Eastern Africa. Landlocked country bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, and Burundi to the south.

  • Climate

Located just south of the Equator, the climate is pleasantly warm all year round. dry season from June to August(with July as the driest month) and a rainy season from September to May. On closer view, there would be two rainy seasons, caused by the zenith passages of the sun, from March to May and from September to November.

  • Major Sectors of the Economy

Rwanda is a rural, agrarian country with agriculture accounting for about 63% of export earnings, and with some mineral and agro-processing. Population density is high but, with an estimate of 12 million people spread out on a small amount of land. Tourism, minerals, coffee, and tea are Rwanda's main sources of foreign exchange. Rwanda has made substantial progress in stabilizing and rehabilitating its economy well beyond pre-1994 levels. GDP has rebounded with an average annual growth of 6%-8% since 2003 and inflation has been reduced to single digits. The government has embraced an expansionary fiscal policy to reduce poverty by improving education, infrastructure, and foreign and domestic investment. Rwanda consistently ranks well for ease of doing business and transparency.

  • Employment Opportunities

Rwanda’s economy is based mainly on small agricultural production (33% of total GDP). Other significant economic sectors include industry (15%), which is mainly composed of food processing and manufacturing plants, as well as services (53%), including tourism. Mining is also an important part of the economy, especially for coltan, which is used in the construction of mobile phones and tablets.

Rwanda is located in Central Africa and has much history and natural beauty. Expeditions visit volcanoes, waterfalls and rainforests that are home to many different African animals. Rwanda is blessed with a number of natural tourism resources that range from the gently sloping hills, natural forests, fresh lakes, rivers etc. Nyungwe forest national park is located south western Rwanda and its among the major outstanding tourism landmarks in the country. Other major destinations in Rwanda where tourists closely interact with wildlife include volcanoes national park located in north western Rwanda which has mountain gorillas and also a number of primates like golden monkeys and a number of birds as well. If not volcanoes national park, one can go to Akagera national park for savanna wildlife experiences with views of a number of wildlife species that include lions, elephants and Rothschild giraffes, hippos among others.

The Rwandan government provides free education in state-run schools for primary and middle school. However, school attendance numbers are still low in some regions. There are a number of private schools across Rwanda, mostly run by churches, which follow the national curriculum. There are very few international schools, and these are located in the capital.

  • Health

The health sector of the country was completely disrupted at the time of the 1994 genocide as much of the infrastructure, equipment, personnel, and the health system itself was destroyed. With the advent of peace, there has been a lot of effort put in by government in rebuilding of the health system of the country that is through amendment of policies, construction of better health facilities, advocating for investment in the sector and requesting for funds and grants to improve the sector. There are national referral hospitals in the country whose mission is to provide tertiary care to the population. Healthcare in Rwanda in recent decades has seen great improvement. Rwanda operates a universal health care system, and is considered to have one of the highest-quality health systems in Africa.

  • Political and Social Climate

Rwanda is mainly composed of two tribes that is the Hutus and the Tutsis with Kinyarwanda being the most popularly used language by nationals of the country followed by French and then English as the official languages and Kiswahili in commercial centers. Rwanda experienced protracted civil wars, which claimed hundreds of thousands of victims in the mid-1990s which drastically affected the economy but however the country has gained stability over the last 25 years ever since the end of the genocide in 1994. There is a big network of expats who live and have been working in Rwanda for a long time now. Rwanda is quite safe. You will enjoy your time there.
